Kampala, Uganda –Unknown Assassins have killed Uganda’s Assistant Inspector General and spokesman of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesiand and his two bodyguards on Friday morning, officials say.
Kampala Spokesman, Emillian Kayima, confirmed the incident to reporters this morning.
According to witnesses the unidentified armed assailants attacked the car that officers were travelling in about 100 metres from Kaweesi’ home in Kulambiro, Nakawa Division in Kampala and sprayed bullets on the car, killing al onboard.
“It is true – we are saddened by the loss of our police officers including AIG Andrew Felix Kaweesi who were killed in the shooting this morning and we are asking Ugandans to stay calm.”Kayima said.
It’s not yet clear how Kaweesi was killed, however, Mr. Kayihura said investigations were ongoing.
Kaweesi who also held the position of director human resource was in August 2016 appointed by IGP Kayihura as the special police spokesman as the Force attempted to repair its image tainted by a string of brutality incidents and public relations nightmares
Mourners have already poured ino the home of Andrew Felix Kaweesi in Kulambilo while his body is still in Mulago Hospital for postmortem.
