“The spirit of Uganda celebrates all things Ugandan and our unique heritage and we are happy to be holding such a campaign because deejaying has become an overnight sensation in Kampala with a number of deejays enjoying even bigger fan bases than many others,” Uganda Waragi brand manager Roy Tumwizere said. “As a brand we wish to set a foundation to professionalise the Ugandan DJ industry as well as honour DJs’ contribution to Uganda’s music industry.”
Titled UG Mix Maestro, the campaign was launched at EABL’s headquarters in Luzira in partnership with the DJ Association of Uganda (DJAU). Formed in 2014, DJAU is an umbrella body that strives to unite DJs and VJs in Uganda.
UG Mix Maestro will feature a number of nationwide activations, in-store special promotional offers, house parties and regional tours that will include DJ battles.
At the end of the campaign, top deejays in various categories will be crowned. Some of the awards up for grabs include Best Male/Female Battle DJ, Rising Star Award, TV DJ of the Year, Radio DJ of the Year, Events DJ of the Year, Club DJ of the Year, Gospel DJ of the Year and Outstanding Achievement award.
Meanwhile, DJ Rachael has been holding workshops in Kampala under the Femme Electronic banner for female participants who wish to get involved in electronic music. Find out more here.
