Durga Prasad Bhattarai, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations and Mohamed Siad Doualeh, the Republic of Djibouti’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Ambassador to the United States signed an instrument to this effect at a brief ceremony at the Permanent Mission of Nepal in New York on Saturday afternoon.
Following this, the two ambassadors also jointly informed Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, about the establishment of Nepal-Djibouti bilateral relations today.
With this, the number of countries with which Nepal has established diplomatic relations has now reached 147.
On the occasion, they also exchanged views on further expanding the areas of cooperation at bilateral and multilateral forums, and committed to working together in pursuit of peace, development and common prosperity ahead.
Both Nepal and Djibouti are members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 and they have worked together in the UN platform for common interest of Least Developed Countries. Djibouti joined the United Nations on 20 September 1977.
Djibouti, which is situated in the Horn of Africa and serves as a transit route for east African Countries, joined the United Nations on 20 September 1977.
