ENTEBBE/MASAKA. Residents of Entebbe and Masaka districts woke up to the sad news of the killing of two women by unidentified gangs as crime wave continues to grip various parts of the country.
In Nkumba, Bufulu, Katabi Town Council, the body of a 35-year old mother of five, Sarah Nakajjo Nakintu was discovered in a bush with twigs inserted in her mouth and private parts.
In a separate but equally shocking incident in Masaka District, police recovered the body of a woman in her mid-20s suspected to have been raped before being killed and her body dumped on the roadside.
Her body was dumped along Bulayi Road, Nyendo-Ssenyange Division and the police are yet to make headway regarding the killing.
“In Entebbe, police moved quickly and arrested Mr Godfrey Mayanja, Nakintu’s husband and Mr John Bwanika, a witch doctor, to help with investigations,” Entebbe Main Police Station officer in charge of Criminal Investigations Department ASP Zachariah Mbabazi told journalists.
In an interview before his arrest, Mr Mayanja indicated that he last saw Nakintu on Tuesday evening when she came to his home to get some money.
Nakintu’s killing marks a further upsurge in the gruesome killing of women in Entebbe and Wakiso districts as she becomes the eighth victim in two months to be killed.
Police responded to the killings of women and rise in crime in Entebbe by enforcing a 10pm curfew with residents expected to be home at that time and all businesses closed.
The curfew has, however, failed to stem the spike in the murder of women and residents are now living in fear.
Entebbe District police commander Godfrey Ninsiima said they suspect that an organised group is behind the murders of women that have rocked Entebbe over the past months.
“We believe this is an organised group but we want to assure the public that we are on the ground and further call upon all people to join us in community policing to identify wrong characters that we may see in our society,” Mr Ninsiima said.
Recently, the Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, admitted that there is a lapse in security which has allowed criminals to roam free and terrorise people in Entebbe and Wakiso districts.
