NAIROBI, Kenya– Embakasi MP Babu Owino has been charged with causing grievous harm to a voter and use of force during the August 8 elections.
The MP who was re-arrested on Wednesday was arraigned before Kibera Chief Magistrate Joyce Gandani, where he denied the charges.
The prosecution wants the MP to be denied bail while arguing that the charges are serious.
The first count if proven attracts a life sentence while the second under the elections Act is punishable with six years imprisonment or a fine of Sh1 million.
Babu was freed on Wednesday on a Sh500,000 cash bail after facing subversion charges following disparaging remarks he made against the presidency.
