Police kill three suspected robbers in Ruiru

Police have gunned down three suspected robbers and arrested one as they raided a cosmetics godown off Eastern Bypass in Ruiru.

Kiambu police commander Adiel Nyange said the three robbers had entered the godown from the back fence and began loading products into one of the godown’s trucks.

“They scaled the high wall and cut the godown’s razor and electrical wire fencing to access the compound. They then tied down the watchmen. Unbeknown to them, the godown’s CCTV cameras were recording all their movements and that is how the owner called the police,” said Mr Nyange.

He said the police officers moved in swiftly and the robbers engaged them in a shoot-out. Three thugs were fatally injured and one was arrested.

“We recovered an AK-47 rifle and an assortment of breaking and entering tools from the gang,” added Mr Nyange.

Other robbers said to be about four who were keeping watch aboard a truck that was on standby outside the godown escaped during the shoot-out.

Nyange said his officers have good leads and the robbers who escaped will soon be  apprehended.
