3 dead, seven injured in Kampala-Masaka road accident

MPIGI Three people have been reported dead and seven others rushed to hospital in critical condition following an accident along Masaka-Kampala road.

The accident occurred at Kalandazi, Buwama Sub County in Mpigi District on the Masaka –Kampala highway when the driver of a speeding commuter taxi registration number UBE 689 B transporting from Kyotera to Kampala reportedly lost control and overturned several times.

Eye witnesses told this reporter that one of the tyres of the taxi burst before it overturned.

The injured were taken to Gombe and Nkozi hospitals for treatment as police launch investigations into the cause of the accident, Mr Richard Wabwire, the Officer in charge of Buwama Traffic Police Station said.

“We are still investigating what could have caused the accident but we urge road users to be careful. Witnesses say this accident was caused by a tyre burst but many others are caused by reckless driving,” he added.By press time, details on the victims were still scanty.

Shortly after the accident, several photos were shared on Whatsapp showing bodies of victims on the road.
