Uganda: Suspected thief killed, body dumped in school compound

BUDAKA- Students of Naboa Senior Secondary School in Budaka District are in shock after a mob killed a suspected chicken thief and dumped the body in the school compound.

The suspected thief has been identified as Abutwa Kwanja, a resident of Nangeye Village, Naboa Sub-county, Budaka District.

He met his agonising fate after being intercepted with an allegedly stolen chicken.

The District Police commander, Mr Wilson Salaam condemned the action saying cases of mob justice are becoming common in the district.

“We strongly condemn mob justice as a method of administering justice to suspects. This is totally unacceptable and those implicated in inciting others will be dealt with accordingly,” Mr Salaam said.

He said the community can fight crime by reporting suspected wrongdoers to police.

“We continue to witness extreme injustice being perpetrated against innocent suspects. We are seeing acts of gross violation of basic human rights,” he said.
