Uganda: UPDF to renovate schools, hospitals in northern Uganda

KAMPALA-The UPDF has launched one week of civil military activities in Acholi region that will see a number of schools and hospitals renovated.

The exercise will involve roofing and painting of selected schools.

The activities will end on February 6, [Tarehe Sita], when the UPDF will be celebrating 38 years the Kabamba Barracks attack in 1981 that triggered a five-year guerrilla war which brought President Yoweri Museveni to power in 1986.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr Jacob Oulanyah who was the chief guest during the launch, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Mbuya, on Tuesday, praised the UPDF for its peacekeeping role in the region.

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi said they selected Acholi sub-region because it is recovering from the “war trauma” after 20 years of Lord’s Resistance Army insurgence.
