GITEGA– Burundi’s President Evariste Ndayishimiye has announced a ban on the use of personal mobile phones by state employees during working hours, a move aimed at accelerating public service delivery.
The directive, announced during a political gathering in the capital Gitega on Sunday, requires civil servants to use only official office telephones for professional communication. Ndayishimiye stated the measure is intended to ensure the pace of government work matches the “determination of citizens engaged in development.”
The President warned that any official showing “slowness incompatible with development objectives” would be dismissed.
Additionally, the government encouraged state employees to engage in income-generating activities outside of office hours to supplement their earnings. The ban follows resolutions from the ruling CNDD-FDD party’s central committee.
