DODOMA – Tanzania has launched a nationwide initiative to overhaul its education system for the digital age, with UNESCO and the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) completing a massive training program for ICT master trainers on Wednesday.
Supported by the Republic of Korea, the project has certified 139 ICT master trainers from 60 educational institutions across 20 regions.
These trainers are tasked with cascading digital teaching competencies to thousands of teachers across the country, aiming to integrate technology directly into the Tanzanian curriculum rather than treating it as a standalone subject.
The move comes as President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration pushes for a “future-ready” workforce. “Strategic international cooperation and national leadership are collectively shaping a more inclusive, resilient education system,” UNESCO stated.
The initiative includes the development of digital learning materials designed to function in areas with limited internet connectivity, a persistent hurdle for rural Tanzanian schools.
