NJOMBE, Tanzania – President Samia Suluhu Hassan used International Workers’ Day celebrations in the southern highlands of Njombe to unveil the final phase of Tanzania’s 2026/27 Development Vision.

Addressing a massive rally, Hassan called on the labor force to take a “vanguard role” in driving the country’s transition toward a semi-industrialized economy.

The President emphasized that the upcoming financial year would prioritize infrastructure projects and the expansion of the digital economy to absorb a growing youth population.

“Our workers are the engine of the 2026 vision,” Hassan said. “We are focusing on labor reforms that balance productivity with the dignity of our workforce.”

The speech was seen by analysts as an effort to consolidate support ahead of local government elections, amid rising pressure from trade unions for higher minimum wage adjustments to counter regional inflationary pressures.
