KAMPALA, – Ugandan authorities launched a sweeping security operation overnight, arresting 231 foreign nationals for illegal residency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed Tuesday.

The raids come as the government attempts to re-establish “Trade Order” in the capital, with Cabinet clearing enforcement measures to resume this week.

In the legal sector, the high-profile Kivumbi terrorism case faced a significant setback. Proceedings were delayed after several suspects disowned statements previously attributed to them by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), alleging that the evidence was obtained under duress.

The economic outlook provided a rare bright spot as the Bank of Uganda formally recognized Pearl Bank for its aggressive support of SMEs and the agricultural sector.

However, the financial sector remains cautious as the government balances regional security obligations with domestic fiscal pressures.
