DODOMA – Kenyan President William Ruto, addressing the Tanzanian Parliament on Tuesday, hailed the “National Water Grid” and joint energy projects as the new backbone of East African integration.

Invited by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Ruto highlighted the achievements of the Kenya–Tanzania Power Interconnector, a 400-kilovolt transmission line.

“This project goes beyond linking power grids; it harmonizes our energy systems and enables a competitive regional market,” Ruto said.

The two leaders discussed a new electricity line running through Shinyanga to Kenya, intended to leverage Tanzania’s natural gas and Kenya’s geothermal resources.

Ruto also praised Uganda’s recent investment in Kenya’s oil pipeline, describing the shift from consumer to partner as a model for the continent.
