GABORONE  – Rwandan President Paul Kagame arrived in Botswana on Wednesday for a high-profile state visit aimed at deepening economic ties through the Botswana-Rwanda Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC).

The visit follows a two-day business forum in Gaborone that focused on mining, ICT, and renewable energy.

A key outcome of the visit is the expected signing of a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, which officials say will catalyze investment between the two nations.

Rwanda, positioning itself as a continental hub for services and tech, is looking to Botswana for partnerships in mining services and agro-processing.

The move is part of Kagame’s broader strategy to diversify Rwanda’s economic partnerships beyond the immediate East African region, tapping into the Southern African Development Community (SADC) markets.
