DJIBOUTI CITY – Djibouti’s strategic importance as a maritime gateway was reaffirmed Tuesday as government officials met with international naval commanders to discuss Red Sea security.
With 95 percent of Djibouti’s port activity fueled by Ethiopian trade, the government is focusing on “inland resilience.”
The African Development Bank’s financing for the Djibouti–Ethiopia–South Sudan transport corridor is being treated as strategic insurance against maritime shocks.
Officials emphasized that the Horn’s real strategic competition has moved from the waterline to inland state-capacity and infrastructure redundancy.
